Veteran Quest is a special culturally based program developed to work with those suffering from primary & secondary PTSD.
This three day two night event would confront traumatic memories by working individually, within support groups and through family interaction (when spouse accompanies veteran).
Upon arriving the first day the entire group will meet for an opening ceremony. Introductions of each member will be made as everyone is assigned to groups.
Day two a brief tour for newcomers will be made of the Highgrounds. The remainder of the day will be working on developing techniques to work on PTSD. Both days will include group discussions, therapeutic techniques, drumming groups and a healing campfire.
Day 3 begins with a sunrise ceremony followed by a return to the Highgrounds for a intensive part 2.
We plan on 60 individuals with a staff of six.
We will stay at the Super 8 Motel in Black River Falls. All lodging from Sunday afternoon to tues am, along with all meals is $30 (nonrefundable.)
Please contact Paul Fine at 414-354-4139 to register
About the Highgrounds
The Highground is honored to have been chosen as the home of The National Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Unanimous approval for this decision was given at the annual Congress of Native American Indians held in Denver, CO in 1994.
Dedicated in 1995, The National Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial is the first national memorial to come to The Highground. Harry Whitehorse, Madison sculptor and WW II veteran, created this bronze sculpture.
Mounted on a red granite base, the sculpture depicts an Native American Soldier in jungle fatigues, holding a rifle in one hand and an Eagle Feather Staff in the other. The names, rank, home of record, date of casualty-how they died (Still to be completed is the tribal affiliation.) of all Native American Indians who died as a result of the Vietnam war etched into two of the four black granite panels which skirt the base of the entire statuary. When we do tours we emphasize the importance of the Eagle Feather Staff.
