“….take the money from your magnetic “support our troops”
ribbon, or the money from a company putting that “support our
troops” ad on TV; and put it where it will help a veteran survive
today, to give them and their families hope of a tomorrow.”
This band of brothers and sisters known as DryhootchI’ve been invited to check out a Veteran and Military Family advocacy group that has a goal of establishing a network of GI Coffee
Houses where Veterans and returning troops from any war can relax, and
reconnect.
The non-profit organization is DryHootch – A Place for Vets to Reconnect.
As I reviewed what the website and organization had to offer, the focus is on coffee shops that allow a Vet or family member to socialize, and heal.
After reviewing the goals and direction of DryHootch, I decided to join in their efforts, and encourage others to check it out for themselves and become a part of this effort.
There is a growing need and number of such efforts in addition to DryHootch with coffee houses forming outside or near major military
bases that have been hard hit by multiple deployments. The focus of all
of them is not political activism, but reconnecting Veterans and
Military Families to take care of one another leaving diverse views to
be debated only as part of the healing process.
