I believe that we should be active during the election season asking questions about what kind of policies and procedures the candidates would like to see regarding veterans. We have a senator up for reelction and we will have a new governor. How can we make our concerns known during this season of change?

This is a great idea, as long as things don't get partisan. Our legislators are all to ready to believe what they hear from veterans affairs. They jump to soon and to often to do things that are good for some bureaucrats agenda, and not necessarially for the veterans at large. We need to not be greedy, and put more emphases on the really important things. Helping those veterans that are in need and suffering has to be our biggest priority. State and federal agencies need to be watched more closely and held accountable. If your legislator dosen't want to talk to you because " it's not my committee " it may be time to start looking for someone new. Us older vets should leave the younger ones with a better handle on things than we had.
I drafted a letter today to Gwen Moore about the problem of toxic waste exposure endangering troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. There's a bill in congress Tim Bishop introduced to help address the problem. I asked her to cosponsor the bill.
