Hello out there.

My name is Cordell and I teach Architecture at UWM. I am trying to put together a design studio for next year whose program (the reason for the project to be designed) is an inpatient rehabilitation center, here in Milwaukee, for those diagnosed with either PTSD or TBI, primarily consisting of returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. I, myself, sustained a fairly severe TBI while still in graduate school, and the resulting struggle to recover from that and get on with my life has made me acutely aware of the number of returning vets suffering with these issues. I am not trying to equate my experience with those of you returning from war, rather I am trying to make understood that this is meaningful to me, both as an architect and as a human being.
I didn't know of anyplace else where I could possibly meet those who have dealt with, or are dealing with these issues, therefore my post here. Essentially I want to meet with, or in other way communicate with those of you, in and around Milwaukee, who are returning veterans confronting these issues.  As mentioned, I teach at UWM and am especially interested in meeting current or former UWM students, though this is not the most important issue.

Please feel free to contact me via email at cordell@uwm.edu.

Thanks,

Cordell

I am glad to hear about your interest in dryhootch.org. I am a UWM student and a veterans and have been told there is a large population of veterans on campus. I'm in social work and just wanted to encourage you in your efforts.

thank you for your message. if you know of anyone who may be diagnosed with ptsd or tbi, and they are willing to talk about it, i'd certainly appreciate your letting me know.

Thanks for your reply, and of course you qualify to respond. And thanks also for the good information. Are these events open to general public? I'll call you within a few days to get a bit more information.

We also have some copies of a pamphlet on PTSD at IndependenceFirst that Walt recommended.
