NY Times Jluy 7th, 2010 - Veterans Affairs to Ease Claim Process for Disability

This could be a major step and relatively inexpensive. Sounds well worth it.

What Color is PTSD?

I don't have PTSD but everything i have heard about it sounds grey. some people in the deepest pit of PTSD seem to understand something is wrong but with all the distortion, it's hard to see clearly.

ADA Compliance

I am aware of Diana, I was curious about whether dryhootch.org had been using her as a resource.

I watched the movie and passed it along to others. It was extremely well done. I hope it will lead to needed reforms because if that was what happened to one platoon, it's likely other horrors took place involving other platoons.

Suddenly

When I blogged a few weeks ago I was really feeling down on my luck. I was focusing on the uncertainties I faced being in summer school at UWM and not receiving the amount of financial aid I had expected.

Then, suddenly, I got a new job, had a good interview about being an intern at a community organization and worked out a solution to my car problems. Now, I can see solutions to some of the things that were bothering me. I even called the VA to reschedule an appointment

A time of trials

I have survived a rather rough spring brought about by lower income after one of my jobs ended and i struggled to find a suitable replacement. i had to cut back some of my volunteer activities to focus on getting a job and finishing the semester. because i focused, i did well and achieved better than a 3.0 average out of 4. but even better i received word that i was approved for a new job that i had researched to learn whether it would be a good fit. so i start on this new adventuContinue

A good semester

My semester at UWM has been a time of very positive growth which portends well for the future. I am awaiting word from the school of welfare welfare on my application for admission and a field work placement for the fall. I had positive experiences on an internship with IndependenceFirst and enjoyed fellowship with NAMI and dryhootch.org. I joined the steering committee of the Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force. I expect to graduate next spring with my Ba… Continue

Thanks Kenyatta, Walt, David, and everyone at Dryhootch for your concerns and wonderful wishes in regards to my recent health event. On April 5, 2010 at 07:00 I had a transient ischemic attack (TIA). A (TIA) is an episode in which a person has stroke -like symptoms for less than 24 hours, usually less than 1-2 hours.

The good news is, unlike a stroke, an episode of TIA is brief and recovery is complete. In my case, a problem in the area of cholesterol seems to be the primary cause of the TIA event. My doctors have started me on a new regimen of medications, increasing the dosages and adding new ones. I hope the new formula of drugs I’m getting from the VA works better than what I was taking in the past. This one was pretty scary!

Thanks again to everyone at Dryhootch for your concern and support!

I saw that you are in social work at UWM. I am too. I'm glad we could meet at Dryhootch. I will be at the Vietnam Memorial on May 1. Maybe we could meet there.

Hi Kenyatta,
I'd like to attended the open house at the end of the month. It would be a great time to meet everyone and get some video footage for Veterans Newsline. I was wondering if it would be possible to help Laurie and I out with transportation to and from the event. We live just 30 miles to the south in Kenosha. If that's too far for you to come, I understand. I put the word out to my staff photographers earlier today, so maybe one of them will show up.

Hi again,
Do you already know all about UWM or will you need some guidance? I came to UWM from MATC, Oak Creek campus. I am still here, but now in grad school. Let me know if you need any help at UWM. Have a nice evening. (I'm in the UWM library writing this)

Hi there, welcome to this site and to UWM. I am happy to help you with school stuff, just let me know your need. Also - tell me about your need for mediation so I can help. Are you going to the event in Johnson Creek tomorrow? If so, I'll see you there.
