Military veterans need not fear health care reform

Concerned about how the health care reform bill will affect your military or veterans care?

You're not alone.

Top officials from the Pentagon and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, among others, were quick to react this week to calm those concerns after Congress approved the controversial legislation Sunday.

Snip

A letter to the editor of the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press pointed out additional benefits:

"Let's be clear, health care reform is also a victory for military veterans' families," Ben Hamilton of Hampton, Va., wrote. "While the veteran may have access to (VA) facilities, his or her spouse does not.

"There are thousands of veterans' families among the millions of Americans without health insurance. They either could not afford health insurance or they lost it because of unemployment due to the recession."

And while I'm posting the above, to pass around folks, I'll post the following:

Upcoming Congressional Veterans Committee Hearings

Senate Veterans Committee

Field Hearing: Veterans' Access to Benefits and Services in Appalachia

April 5 2010

Hearing: VA Disability Compensation: Presumptive Disability Decision- Making
April 21 2010

Archived Hearings

Nothing as to Rescedule of the Open Senate Hearing on Veterans Homelessness, shutdown by republican actions that day, 03.24.2010, in Congress, causing other hearings also to be shutdown or late started ones never to get underway, wasting extreme amounts everyones time and tax payer money.

But you can read the statements of the participants in both panels of this important hearing, sans the questions and any clarifications, clearer idea's and suggestions etc., questioning would have brought.

VA's Plan for Ending Homelessness among Veterans

Oversight Hearing: VA's Plan for Ending Homelessness among Veterans

March 24, 2010

House Veterans Committee

Next Live Webcast April 15 at 1 p.m.

Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity
“Status of Veterans Employment”

Why post, well to inform but more importantly because of the extremely Important Hearing that was shutdown and probably won't be rescheduled and what it cost, along with the rest of the Congressional Hearings and work that day, in time wasted and thus money spent and thus wasted in preparation etc.!! But at least we have the statements that are now archived and in the Congressional Record.
